The Bound Woman: How a Football Field Buried Thir13en Ghosts' Betrayal

She had a cruel habit of breaking hearts, but one fatal betrayal pushed her high school boyfriend into a murderous rage. Strangled, bound, and buried under the 50-yard line, her spirit now hangs in eternal agony. Discover the bloody true lore of The Bound Woman from Thirteen Ghosts.

The Bound Woman from Thir13en Ghosts: a woman in a tiara and white lace dress beside her decayed ghost form, which hangs in a glass containment cube near massive, glowing clockwork gears.

The shifting glass walls of the Basileus machine hold many terrors, but perhaps the most chilling is the ghost of a girl who seemingly had it all. The movie Thirteen Ghosts introduced audiences to the Black Zodiac, a demonic mechanism designed by the devil and powered by the dead. Built by the wealthy occultist Cyrus Kriticos, this mansion made of ectobar glass and etched with Latin containment spells was designed to open the Ocularis Infernum, the Eye of Hell. The third spirit captured to fuel this dark ritual is a horrific apparition who hangs suspended by the neck, still wearing her vintage graduation dress and a tarnished crown. To the occult, she is known forever as The Bound Woman. But before her soul was trapped behind spectral glass, she was an arrogant teenager named Susan LeGrow.

A Chilling Queen of Hearts

Susan LeGrow was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was the daughter of the wealthiest couple in her town, a status that automatically crowned her the most popular girl in high school. She was the head cheerleader, possessing a seemingly perfect life and a flawless, captivating smile. To the outside world, she walked through the school hallways wrapped in the sweet scent of expensive perfume and the constant hum of adoration.

But beneath her perfect smile hid a cruel, sadistic habit. Susan enjoyed seducing boys and mercilessly breaking their hearts without a single shred of remorse. She treated the young men in her town as disposable toys, flirting with whomever she chose and leaving a long trail of devastated admirers in her wake. Her friends frequently warned her that her reckless behavior would one day catch up with her and that she would live to regret her two-faced ways. They were entirely correct.

The Fatal Graduation Dance

During her senior year, Susan set her sights on the biggest prize in the school. She began dating the star captain of the football team, a fiercely competitive boy named Chet Walters. For a brief period, they were the golden couple of the town, but old habits die hard. The tension finally snapped on the night of the high school graduation dance. The gymnasium was filled with the sounds of music and the rustle of formal dresses, but Susan grew bored. She snuck away from the dance floor and cheated on Chet with another boy from school.

Unfortunately for the young lovers, Chet found them. When the football captain caught his prom queen in another boy's arms, his reaction was absolute and utterly brutal. Thrown into a blind, adrenaline-fueled rage, Chet attacked the boy. The next morning, the young man was found clubbed to death. Forensic science tells us that severe blunt force trauma to the head produces crushing, depressed skull fractures and catastrophic intracerebral bleeding. The boy was beaten so mercilessly that the surrounding earth would have been slick with copper-scented blood. While the town reeled from the discovery of the mutilated boy, they quickly realized something even more disturbing. Susan LeGrow had vanished without a trace.

The Desperate Manhunt

Susan's sudden disappearance sparked a massive, desperate town-wide manhunt. Police officers and volunteers scoured the woods, the local rivers, and the surrounding fields. When searching for a concealed corpse, investigators look for specific changes in the environment. Freshly turned dirt, changes in soil compaction, and depressions in the terrain can indicate a burial site. As a body decomposes and the skeleton eventually collapses, the soil above a grave tends to sink inward, creating a noticeable depression.

Despite these tracking methods, two agonizing weeks passed before her horrifying fate was finally discovered. The police brought their search to the local high school football field, the very place where Chet Walters had achieved his greatest glories. Digging deep into the dirt beneath the fifty-yard line, they finally uncovered the decaying remains of the missing prom queen.

The Autopsy of a Prom Queen

The medical examiner who pulled Susan from the cold earth was met with a gruesome sight. Mother Nature is not kind to the dead, and though being buried offers some protection against predators and rapid decay, the damp soil still hastens the putrefaction process. But the physical trauma inflicted on her body was far more shocking than the decay. Susan was found tightly bound with thick ropes, her arms secured violently behind her back.

She had been brutally strangled to death. Chet's own formal necktie had been used as a ligature around her throat. In cases of ligature strangulation, the compression creates a deep, dark furrow across the tissues of the neck that matches the exact width of the weapon. The silk fabric had cut deeply into her flesh. The immense pressure from the strangulation causes the veins in the face and eyes to burst, leaving behind distinct red petechial hemorrhages in the sclera. But the strangulation alone was not what ended her life. In his furious rage, Chet had twisted her head with such violent force that he completely broke her neck.

Trapped in the Black Zodiac

Chet Walters was swiftly arrested for the double murder and placed on death row. He showed absolutely no remorse for the slaughter. Just before his execution, Chet delivered a chilling final statement to the witnesses: "The bitch broke my heart, so I broke her neck."

But Susan's agony did not end in the dirt of the football field. Because of her brutal demise and her own history of cruel betrayals, her bound spirit remained tied to the mortal plane. Decades later, the wealthy occultist Cyrus Kriticos captured her fractured soul to fuel his dark machine. She became the third ghost of the Black Zodiac, forever doomed to hang suspended by the very formal tie that ended her life. In the lore of the Black Zodiac, she represents the astrological sign of Gemini, a twisted reflection of her two-faced nature and her history of infidelity. As she stalks the glass hallways of the Basileus machine, her body bears the gruesome marks of her strangulation, and she still laughs in a sadistic, insane manner.

When vanity and betrayal push a violent mind too far, it leaves behind a deeply disturbing question. Does the true curse lie in the ghost's eternal strangulation, or in the cruel, remorseless heart she possessed while she was still breathing?
